Rain last week didn’t slow farmers for long, and they were back in the fields this week, working to get the soybean and corn crops out of the fields before winter arrives. For the week ending Oct. 20, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reported that most soybean acres were harvested. Corn harvested was 32 percent, well behind last year’s 88 percent at this time. Soybean harvest statewide was 80 percent complete, behind last year’s 94 percent. Cuming County fields are still full of corn, but much of that will be taken out before week’s end if weather cooperates.
