A planning meeting for the St. Patrick’s Day event to be held in Wisner on Saturday, March 15, was held at the VFW Club on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Happy, Happy, Happy St. Pat’s Jack is the theme for this year’s event.
The new event for this year is the beard judging contest. Beards will be judged on the trailer stage on the corner of Ave E and 10th St. just prior to the parade. The St. Pat’s king and queen will also be announced on the stage. Both groups will be taken to the parade route to be entered in the parade down main street at 3 p.m.
A three-on-three basketball tournament will be held in the school gym for seventh grade students through adults. Check-in is at 8 a.m. with the tournament starting at 9 a.m. A Fun-Run will begin at the Wisner Fire Hall with registration at 11 a.m. and the run starting at noon. Cosmic bowling will be held for third grade students through junior high from 4 to 6 p.m.
Bouncy houses will be available for children from noon to three and from four to six p.m. A pitch tournament will be held at the Wisner Senior Center starting at 2 p.m. The 3 p.m. parade will include Mt. Calvary, jeeps and floats. The FFA Work Auction will be held at Countryside Vet following the parade.
The day will conclude with the dance in the city auditorium. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the dance starts at 9 p.m.
The next planning meeting will be held Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at Rumors.
