The City of Wisner may be one city council meeting away from the creation of the position of city administrator/clerk/treasurer.
This comes after the council on Monday approved the second reading on the ordinance to create this position.
Prior to the approval, the council was asked a few questions from citizens on hand for the meeting.
Among the concerns were the fact that the city could possibly get by with a less expensive alternative in just hiring a clerk/treasurer to replace existing clerk/treasurer Barb Rabe at her retirement; and just what would the new position be adding to the city.
The answer given was that there is no guarantee the clerk/treasurer position would come at a less expensive cost, plus the benefits of having someone full time to look into internal and external matters for the best interest of the city would outweigh any additional costs.
“This position expands on what small towns want to do,” said Mayor Larry Bockelman.
In a related matter, the council authorized advertising for the new administrative position. This will initially be done locally, then at state level and also on-line.
