Just getting a look at the basket was a struggle for the Lady Cadets early on. But once West Point-Beemer picked up some momentum, they went stride for stride with Wayne.
Wayne, however, side-stepped the upset as the Blue Devils held off West Point-Beemer to earn a 38-32 victory last Thursday.
“I was curious to see how the girls would respond. And as I knew they could, the girls stepped up and did a phenomenal job of playing ball,” Cadet head coach Terry Doggett said. “They fought hard and showed a great ability to battle back.”
West Point-Beemer not only erased a double-digit deficit in the opening half, the Cadets took a lead of their own in the second half.
Wayne, however, pulled back in front, and after a few missed chances by the Cadets to tie up the game late, used some free throws to secure the win.
