Fantastic finish It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.
Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25... West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

WP-B bids farewell to seniors West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Services for Wanda A. Raabe, 89, of Norfolk, formerly of Pierce, were Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pierce. Rev. Gordon Bruce officiated. Wanda Raabe died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at the Madison House in Norfolk.
Home for Funerals of Norfolk was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Joyce and Terry Altwine of Overton, Gretchen Hild of Norfolk and Lisa and Craig Stirtz of Gretna; three stepchildren, Lois and Lou Hoger of Perry, Iowa, Dean and Linda Raabe of Elkhorn, and Helen and Lynn Heller of Omaha; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sister, Merna Voss of Pierce.
