Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Laverne Heins - February 09, 2011
Laverne L. Heins, 88, of Surprise, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Faith Lutheran Church in Rising City with Pastor David Schultz officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Chermok Funeral Home in David City. Additional viewing will be Friday one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at Faith East Cemetery.Survivors include his wife, Orva; sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Linda Heins of Columbus and David and Marie Heins of Papillion; one grandson; brother, Loran and Wilma Heins of Rising City; sisters, Betty and Leslie Strickler of Kenai, Ala.; and Avis and John Kroft of Glade Park, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Donna Heins of York, and Lorene Heins of Rising City.
Chermok Funeral Home in David City is in charge of arrangements.
