Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for Donna S. Denker, 75, of York, were held Saturday, May 21 at Home for Funerals. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.She died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Bryan LGH Medical Center, Lincoln.
She is survived by her husband Rodney Denker of York; sons James and Amy Rhodes of Norfolk, and Lawrence Rhodes of Denver, CO; mother Maxine Jorio of Mansfield, TX; brother Lawrence Jorio, Jr. of Mansfield, TX; sister Frankie Venditti of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
