Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for Russell Vanderworker, 80, of West Point, were Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point. Pastor Richard Bringewatt officiated. Interment will be at a later date. Russell died Friday, June 17, 2011, at the West Point Living Center.Survivors include his sons, Fred Vanderworker and Neal Vanderworker, both of West Point; mother, Nina Maas of Stony Brook, N.Y.; grandchildren, Russ Jr. and wife Sarah Vanderworker of Howells, and children Ashley and Jacob; Dawn Marie Vanderworker of Seaford, Del., and children Sarah, Faith and Sophie; Tracy Lynn Vanderworker of Seaford, Del.; brother, Bud Maas of Stony Brook, N.Y.; and sister, Norma Steele of Ariz.
Minnick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
