Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

A memorial service for Emily Grace Schrad, 4, Brantley, AL will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner. The Rev. Dale Topp will officiate.She died at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in Alabama on Aug. 4, 2011.
Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at the Indian Creek Church at Brantley with burial at Brantley.
Survivors include her parents, brothers: Camden and Jessie Schrad and sister, Marissa Pierce, all of Brantley; grandparents, Mike and Shirley Schrad, Wisner; Steve and Karen Throener, West Point; Tracy Brewer, Brantley, AL; step-grandparents, Steve and Susan Pierce; great-grandparents, Hiram and Geraldine Brewer, Brantley; Arlen and Helen Lierman, Beemer and Wilma Throener, West Point; uncle and family, Nicholas, Alexis, Zoe and Cashius Schrad; aunt, Jennifer and daughter, Aubrey; uncle, Dustin Schrad, all of Wisner.
