Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Lawrence Lurz - September 07, 2011
Lawrence William Lurz, 79, of Beemer, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at Pender Community Hospital. Services were Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Beemer. Rev. Scott Evans officiated. Graveside services with military honors were at Harmony Cemetery north of Valentine.Memorials may be made to Wimmer Rehabilitation Center at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point or Lung Research.
Lawrence was born April 23, 1932, in Mission, S.D., to Eustis and Inez (Brown) Lurz and grew up North of Crookston and attended Lutheran School in Minnesota. Lawrence graduated valedictorian of Crookston High School in 1950.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Arline of Beemer; sons, Darrell (Marta) of Valentine, and Dan of Beemer; daughters, Susan Neal (Lewis Herbaugh) of Thedford, Sandy Doyle of Seward, Kelly Mahler of Omaha and Kristy (Joe) Davis of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy, Leonard, Raymond and David Lurz; sisters, Delores Hamling, Annie, Louise McClean and Dorothy Gallino.
Stokely Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
