Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Erna G. Schulzkump, 94, formerly of Greeley, Colo., passed away on Sept. 2, 2011 at Trinidad Inn Nursing Home in Trinidad, Colo. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at Adamson Chapel. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Avenue, Greeley. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, people make a donation to their favorite charity in Erna’s honor.Erna is survived by her daughters, Donna (Rick) Woodruff of Cottonwood, Ariz., Carol (Steve) Ortega of Trinidad; five grandchildren, Malissa (Brent) Crenna-Kaping of Felton, Calif., Kris Jensen of Houston, Texas, Katy (Nicky) Jensen-Monteith of Denver, Colo., Carson (Liz) Ortega of Greeley, Steve (Michele) Ortega of Trinidad; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
