Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Marie A. Schlickbernd, 85, of West Point died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at her home. A funeral Mass was Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Gerald Gonderinger officiated. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery.Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church endowment, St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation, or Cuming County Fair Foundation.
Survivors include her husband, Joe of West Point; daughters, Lois (Mike) McCarty of Houston, Texas, Janet (Bob) Hassler of Woodlands, Texas, and LuAnn (Dave) Franzluebbers of Dodge; sons, Eugene (Pam) and Patrick (Jean) both of West Point, and Ronald (Linda Cech) of Dodge; sisters, Elizabeth Hagedorn of West Point, Margaret (Ray) Ruskamp of Dodge, Sr. Carmelyn Gentrup of Green Bay, Wis., and Bernadette (Larry) Thiem of Omaha; brother, Tom (Myra) Gentrup of Emerson; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
SStokely Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
