Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Herman F. Goeken, age 95, of Yankton, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Avera Sacred Heart Majestic Bluffs Assisted Living Center, Yankton, S.D. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton. Rev. Mark Lichter officiated. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, with military graveside rights by Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791, Yankton and SDARNG, Sioux Falls.Survivors are step-daughters, Janice (Bob) DeJong of Lesterville, S.D. and Darlene (Ronald) Dose of Sioux Falls, S.D.; stepsons, Terrence (Joanne) and Harold (Angela) all of Yankton, Rodney (Diane) Schramm of Utica, S.D., Joe (Sylvia) Gratzfeld and Ed (Joanne) Gratzfeld both of Yankton, S.D. and Carl (Donna) Gratzfeld of Madison, S.D.; many step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sisters, Veronica Lillie and Mary Ann Loecker, both of Yankton, S.D.; and a very special friend, Odelia Ellis of Yankton, S.D.
