Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Louise Ida Boots, 98, of Redfield, S.D., died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Redfield. Rev. Peter M. Utecht officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield was in charge of arrangements (www.thelenfuneralhome.com).
Louise is survived by her children, Francelle (Robert) Fuss of Redfield, Daryl (Sandy) Boots of West Point, Wayne (Mary) Boots of Redfield, and LaVonne Riechers of Volga, S.D.; ten grandchildren, Randy, Rick and Rod Fuss, Kevin Boots, Lana Hagedorn, Robin Buterbaugh, Roy and Ross Boots, Jason and Amber Riechers; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delphine Irwin of Phelan, Calif.; and Ruth Neil of St. Paul, Minn., and nieces and nephews.
