West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Frederick Pooley - November 02, 2011
Frederick A. Pooley, age 71, of Leonardville, Kan., died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at The Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home in Leonardville, Kan.; one son, David Pooley and wife Denise of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Kathleen Hespen and husband Bill of Glenwood, Iowa and Dianne Wagner and husband Kevin of Fairbury; two brothers, Richard Pooley and wife Bonnie of Apple Valley, Minn. and LaRon Budahl and wife Kathy of Watertown, S.D.; six grandchildren, Brian, Kyle, Kristine and husband Zach, Jessica, Megan and Christopher.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kan. Pastor Kevin Larson officiated. Burial will be in the Leonardville Cemetery north of Leonard-ville, Kan. Memorials have been established for the Homecare & Hospice of Manhattan and the Leonardville Pride.
Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, Riley, Kan., was in charge of arrangements.
