Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Lorraine D. (Scheer) McHenry, age 91, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Scribner, died Nov. 1, 2011, in Mesa.Lorraine was born July 14, 1920 in Hooper, Nebr.
Survivors include her children, James and wife Sharlene McHenry of Corona, Calif., Janet and husband Delbert Kruger of Omaha, and David and wife Debbie McHenry of Omaha; 8 grandchildren, Steven Behrbohm of Denver, Colo., Mike Kruger of Omaha, Amy Kruger of Tucson, Ariz., Serena McHenry of Greenville, Texas, Erik McHenry of West Valley City, Utah, Teri McHenry of Sioux Falls, S.D.,Paul McHenry of Gretna, and Phil McHenry of Omaha; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at United Lutheran Church in Scribner (601 Pearl St.). There is no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
