Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Leona Yarger - January 25, 2012
Leona Yarger, 87, of West Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the West Point Living Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Trinity Church with Rev. Nora Mendyk officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home with family receiving friends 5 to 7 p.m.Memorials may be made to Trinity Church or Mount Hope Cemetery. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include sons, Larry of Albertville, Minn., and Jim (Brenda) of West Point; brothers, Dean (E’Linda) Thornburg of Beatrice, and Jim (Lolda) Thornburg of Beatrice; grandchildren Joel Yarger, Abby Yarger, Lindsy Wagner, Anthony Yarger, Rachel Williamsen, and Avery Yarger; and great-grandchildren Alana Williamsen, Kolbi Fagan and Weston Wagner.
