Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Stanley A. Johnson, 75, Oakland, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012, at Oakland Mercy Hospital after a 10 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer.Survivors include his wife, Donna of Oakland; daughters, Deb (Greg) Hanson of Fremont, Diane (Jay) Lindstrom of Craig; son, Doug Johnson of Fremont; stepdaughter, Renee Thielfoldt of Arlington; stepsons, Gary (Cindy) Thielfoldt of Omaha, Brian (Deb) Thielfoldt of Fremont, James (Suzanne) Thielfoldt of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren, Sarah (Hanson) Meier of Blair, Zachary (Lacey) Hanson of Omaha, Jacob Hanson of Fremont, Betsey (Luke) Florell of Grand Island, Miles and Dustin Lindstrom both of Fremont; four great-grandchildren, Bo and Will Meier, Brock and Emmett Florell; nine step grandchildren; twelve step great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Beverly Carlson of Omaha, Robert (Karen) Johnson, Elaine (Roger) Peterson all of Oakland, George (Nancy) Johnson of Rainy River, Canada, Evelyn (Dale) Bolton of Rock Island, Ill., Russell Jr. (Jeannine) Johnson of Davenport, Iowa, Arnold (Peggy) Johnson of Albion; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was Friday March, 9, 2012, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. Rev. Mark Eldal officiated.
A private family burial was at the Oakland Cemetery.
Pelan Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
