Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25... West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

WP-B bids farewell to seniors West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

William Henry “Bill” Schlickbernd Jr., 84, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at his home in Chadron. Funeral services for Bill were Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chadron. Father Tim Stoner officiated. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Beata of Chadron; and his 12 children, Elizabeth Davenport of San Antonio, Texas, John of Scottsbluff, David and Cecilia of Northglenn, Colo., Fred and Patty of Stapleton, Margaret and Alvin Zipperlen of Omaha, Joan and Rainer Kutschmarski of Lincoln, Diane and David Adams of Blanchard, Okla., Mark and Valerie of Solomons, Md., Joe of Fremont, Vincent and Kathy of D’Iberville, Miss., Mary and Phil Ryan of Lincoln, Angela and Dennis Amith of Lemoore, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold of Beemer; and a sister, Mary Sharp, of Rapid City, S.D.
A memorial has been established for the Dawes County 4-H Foundation. Donations may be sent in care of the First National Bank of North Platte, 315 W. 3rd St., Chadron, NE. 69337.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron was in charge of arrangements.
