Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Arla Mae Wood - April 25, 2012
Arla Mae Wood, 87 years of Oakland, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland.A memorial service was Saturday, April 21, 2012, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oakland. Rev. Mark Eldal, officiated. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery at a later date.
Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of almost 69 years, Francis A Wood Sr. of Oakland; four sons, Francis Jr. (Jean) of Wayne, Harlan (Cindy Kay), James (Betty June) all of Lincoln, Raymond (Penny) of Blue Springs, Mo.; three daughters, Ilene (Dan) Baumert of Fremont, Nancy (Kim) Daugherty of West Point, Cindy Wood of Lincoln; 19 grandchildren and spouses; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine (Lorenz) Ronnenkamp of Bancroft; many nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to Oakland Mercy Hospital and Oakland American Legion and VFW.
