Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for Fred McGuire, 65, of Bellevue, formerly of Wisner, were held Tuesday, May 1 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner. Interment was in the Wisner Cemetery with military honors.Fred passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Bergan-Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Survivors include wife, Sharon McGuire of Bellevue; parents, John and Berdine McGuire of Scribner; children, Meagan and Dan Sollee of Ft. Collins, CO, Craig and Ann Recker of San Antonio, TX, Scott Recker of Phoenix, AZ, Barb and Ted Taege of Lincoln, Bruce and Shelley Recker of North Mankato, MN, Todd Raasch of Denver, CO, Tricia and Jeff Messmer of Weston Springs, SD, Chad Raasch of Bellevue, Jeff Raasch of High Point, NC; 14 grandchildren; and sister, Janet Muhs of Sidney.
