Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

DeVerle Smidt - May 16, 2012
DeVerle D. Smidt, 78, of West Point, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at West Point Living Center. A memorial service with military honors was Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Christian Meier officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.Stokely Funeral Home in West Point was is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include wife, Claire of West Point; daughters, Vicky (Terry) Recker of West Point, Patricia (Bruce) Ferguson of North Bend, and Angela (Mohamed) Osman of West Point; sons, Steven (Elizabeth) of West Point and Thomas (Maria) of Pascoe, Wash.; half brother, Richard Seelmeyer of Washington D.C.; 18 grandchildren Cory, Stacy “Tator”, Jeanette, Kathryn, Bradley “Punk n dunk”, Matthew, Caleb, Elise, Alicia, Aryn, Justine “Beaner”, Jesse, Jasmine, Aaliyah, Stefania, Valentina, Amanda, and Abigail “My Beloved Pumpkin Head”; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
