Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Francis Wood Sr. - May 16, 2012
Francis A. Wood Sr., “Woody”, 89 years, of Oakland, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in rural Oakland.Survivors include his four sons, Francis Jr. (Jean) of Wayne, Harlan (Cindy Kay), James (Betty June) all of Lincoln, Raymond (Penny) of Blue Springs, Mo.; three daughters, Ilene (Dan) Baumert of Fremont, Nancy (Kim) Daugherty of West Point, Cindy Wood of Lincoln; 19 grandchildren and spouses; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ramona Deitemeyer of Lincoln, Luella Marra of Wayne, Marjorie Vogt of Bancroft; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was Monday, May 14, 2012, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. Rev. Mark Eldal officiated. Organist was Marian Moseman.
Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors by Ryan VFW Post No. 5543 and American Legion Post No. 46. Bearers were his grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Ryan VFW Post No. 5543 and Oakland Mercy Hospital.
