West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Elmer Oelkers - May 16, 2012
Funeral services for Elmer Oelkers, age 92 of Dodge, will be Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, Iowa. Interment with military honors will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Dunnell, Minn.There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge, NE and will continue on Friday, May 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville, Iowa.
Elmer passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Parkview Home in Dodge.
Survivors include sons, David and wife Peggy Oelkers of Dodge, and Steven and wife Carleen Oelkers of Garner, Iowa; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
