Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for David A. Pohlmeier, 72, of Pender, were Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, is handling the arrangements..Dave passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.
Survivors include son, Jeff Pohlmeier and Angie Lonsdale of Osceola andfamily: Ethan Pohlmeier of Grand Island, Kallan Lonsdale, Kaden and Kaleb Pohlmeier all of Osceola; daughter, Jenni and Greg Moravec of Lindsay and family: Philip Pohlmeier and Garrett Moravec of Lindsay, Molly Goodwater of Columbus and Ceiria Moravec of Norfolk; sisters, Jeanne Petr of Hastings, Gerry and Johnny Hajny of Hastings, Eileen and Bernard Schneider of Cary, NC, and Kathy and John Snyder of Pinehurst, NC; and brothers, Tom Pohlmeier of Alphretta, GA, Jack and Betty Pohlmeier of Pahrump, NV, and Mick and Betty Pohlmeier of Alleman, IA.
