Family characteristics are often evident as sons and fathers gather for photos, when they speak, or in their actions.

10 local EMT’s earn Code Save award
Ten members of West Point Rescue received Code Save Awards at their monthly meeting last Wednesday.
The award is presented to EMS providers who saved a life during CPR and/or defibrillation. It is presented by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, EMS Program.

Arlington shuts down Seniors
West Point’s lack of offense left the American Legion Senior baseball team on the short end of a shutout setback to Arlington, losing 2-0 Monday evening at Anderson Field.

Funeral services for Janice Dorothy Joan Balak, age 81, of Beemer, were Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beemer. Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer was in charge of arrangements. Janice passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital.Survivors include her husband, Vernon A. Balak of Beemer; sons and their families, Rodney and wife Janice of Colorado Springs, Colo., and family; Bryan and wife Dawn Balak and children Emma and Julia; Scott and wife Kari Balak and children Zach, Alex and Anna; Royce and wife Mary Balak of St. Joseph, Mo. and family; Bradley and wife Katrina Balak; Jonathan and wife Lauren Balak; Michael Balak, Katherine Balak; daughter, Roxanne Wieseman of York and family; Stephanie and husband David Halpine, Leslie Wieseman and fiancé Bryan Johnson, Alex Wieseman, Kyle Wieseman; brother, Ron Hass of Beemer; sister-in-law, Genevieve Hass West Point.
