Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Genevieve A. Gerken, 92, of West Point, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. A funeral Mass was Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at St. Charles, with Rev. Gerald Gonderinger as Celebrant. Burial followed at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.Stokely Funeral Home in West Point was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy (Joe) Citta of Reno, Nev., Mary Jean (Tom) Rinker of Boylston, Mass., Mildren (Leo) Mausbach of Mesa, Ariz., Robert of Wakefield, Eileen Wilson of Fremont, Michael of West Point, Steven (Marlene) of Beemer and Diane (Dudley) Persson of Oakland; brother, Jerome (Gladys) Goeken of Omaha; sister, Magdalene Seeman of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Clara Wiesen and Marie Gerken of West Point and Ann Ernesti of Norfolk; 27 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
