Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Mary Goeken, 97, of Clarkson, formerly of West Point, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Alegent Health Hospital in Schuyler. A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial following at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home with guild rosary at 1:30 Thursday and public wake service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by daughters, Mary Ann (Duane) Schlautman of Howells, Alice (Bruce) Connell of Long Pine, Theresa (Ray) Atwood of Lincoln, Rita (Jim) Porter of Castle Rock, Colo., and Andrea (Stan) Fairchild of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; son, Alvin (Vicki) Goeken of Stanton; sister, Margaret Franzluebbers of West Point; brother-in-law, Hubert Kampschneider of West Point; sister-in-law, Bernice Steffensmeier of West Point; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
