Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Kay M. Houser, 77 years, of Fremont, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Nye Legacy in Fremont. A funeral service is Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation is Thursday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; with the family receiving friends on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Fremont.She is survived by sons, Fred Houser of Valley, Michael and wife, Debbie Houser and David and wife, Amanda Houser all of Fremont; daughter, JoEllen “Jody” and husband, Les Sheets of Fremont; brothers, William and wife, Joyce Blumer of Fremont; sisters, Cora and husband, Clifford Braun and Nancy and husband, Rodney Tomrdle all of Fremont; brother-in-law, Richard Houser of Fremont; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Houser of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Marilyn Houser, Barbara Houser and Anna Houser, all of Fremont; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
