Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25... West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

WP-B bids farewell to seniors West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Mary Pappas - November 14, 2012

Mary Margaret Loisel Pappas, 86, Lincoln, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Lincoln. A funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Lincoln. Pallbearers were Cliff Stephens, Brian Olson, Grier Martin, Trey Burke, Ryan Poole, Jack Pappas and John Guenzel.
Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Teresa’s Catholic Church or school.
She is survived by five children and spouses, Daniel and Anne Pappas; Nancy Pappas Olson and Brian Olson; Dr. Stacia Pappas Stephens and Dr. L. Clifton Stephens; J. Scott and Lynn Pappas, all of the greater Houston, Texas area, and Sarah Pappas McCabe and Jeffrey McCabe of Alvo, NE. She was the Beloved Yia Yia of eight granddaughters and spouses, Allison and W. Grier Martin, II; Emily and Edmund “Trey” Burke, III; Elizabeth and Dr. Clay Pendleton; Rebecca and Ryan Poole; Natalie Stephens; Darby Pappas; Riley Pappas, all of the greater Houston, Texas area, and Alexis Kramer Lincoln. Yia Yia’s three grandsons are William Stephens; Jack Pappas, of the greater Houston, Texas area, and Julian Kramer of Lincoln. Her six great-grandchildren are W. Grier Martin, III; Bennett Martin; Charlotte Martin; Luke Burke; Ryan Burke; Matthew Pappas Burke, all of Houston, Texas; and a sister, Anne Loisel Schueth Deland, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Lucille Loisel; husband, Harry Pappas; daughter, Constance Pappas; and seven brothers, John, Joseph, Thomas, Robert, Donald, Daniel and James Loisel.
