Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for Louise M. Stewart, 87, of Norfolk, were held on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Rev. Lee Weander and Rev. Frank Brink officiated, with burial in the Hope Cemetery in Newman Grove. Louise died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.She is survived by her children: Lynn (Marsha) Stewart of Norfolk; Linda (Duane) Gemelke of Brooklyn Park, MN; Cindy (George) Purdy of Robertson, WY; Claire (Tom) Persigner of Neligh; and Peggy (Melvin) Hoffmann of Norfolk; 15 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren; sister, Rachel Pearson of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Elinor Boettcher of Newman Grove, and Wilma Schultz and Laurel Morris of Omaha; brothers-in-law, Glen (Elaine) Stewart of Newman Grove, Vern (Carol) Stewart of Kalispell, MT, Guy Stewart of Green Valley, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
