Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Barry Bales - November 21, 2012
Barry Bales, 51, of West Point, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Colonial Haven in Beemer. A funeral Mass was Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Rev. Frank Lordemann officiated. Graveside services were at Glenvil Cemetery in Glenvil.Stokely Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society Relay For Life or Colonial Haven.
Barry is survived by his father, Cecil Bales of Glenvil; sister, Theresa “Teri” (Russell) Hermann of Juniata; nieces and nephews, Christina Hermann, Joseph (Lexi) Hermann of Hastings, Ann, Matthew, Patrick and Steven Hermann of Juniata; grandniece, Elizabeth Hermann of Hastings; and good friends, Loren and Dodie Jahnke. He is preceded in death by his mother, Cecilia Anne Siegel Bales; grandparents, Hubert and Leona Siegel and Ernest and Neva Bales; aunts and uncles.
