Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Ralph Van Buren, Jr., 85 years, of Oakland, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at his farm home 1 ½ miles south of Oakland.Survivors include his wife, Etta of Oakland; nine children including four sons, Lloyd (Patty) of Utica, S.D., Kevin (Frankie) of New Port, Va., Rick (Elma) of Scribner, Larry of Fremont; five daughters, Kathryn Olson (Floyd Munson) of Talmage, Zenith Pawling of Hooper, Velda (Jerry) Godaire of Fremont, Tammy (Merlin) Osborn of Nebraska City, Anneeta Van Buren of Fremont; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard of Yutan, and Irvin (Millie) of Norfolk; sisters, Marvella (Bob) Jones of Apple Valley, Calif., Wilma (Franky) Buckles of Lake Havasu, Ariz.
A funeral services was Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oakland. Rev. Mark Eldal officiated. Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors by Ryan VFW Post No. 5543, American Legion Post No. 46.
Memorials may be made to the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
