Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Gordys “Butch” Thietje, 92 of West Point, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at West Point Living Center. Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Christian Meier officiated. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery.Stokely Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Butch is survived by his wife, Elveria of West Point; daughter, Janice (Dean) Lubker of West Point, David Lubker and Christy Neel, Dacee Hall and Wesley Neel, Daniel Lubker; daughter, Joyce (Glen) Rodick of Bancroft; son, Dale (Darlene) Thietje of West Point, Stacey (Dave) Ernesti, Natalie (Eric) Myers, Maxwell and Olivia Myers; sister-in-law, Verona Vogel of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnnie Thietje; and sisters, Dorothy Kloke and Verly Phillips.
