Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25...
West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

West Point-Beemer’s Mackenzie Berg turns a little red while principal DJ Weddle shares a story about Mackenzie during Sunday’s graduation ceremony. It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke
A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Orion Schulzkump - December 12, 2012
Orion Schulzkump, 84, of West Point, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Tabitha’s Martha House in Lincoln. Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. Rev. Christian Meier officiated. Burial with military honors followed at Mount Hope Cemetery.Stokely Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or the ALS Association.
Orion is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters, Judy (Tim)Thietje of Lincoln, and Susan Rosenbaum of Stromsburg; grandchildren, Tyler (Chrissy) Thietje, Justin (Megan) Cooksley, Maria Thietje, all of Lincoln and Kristin (Stanley) Draper of Firth; great-grandchildren, Kasondra and Karissa Draper, Knox Cooksley, and Aubrie Thietje; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
