Pool prep continues, splashing to resume May 25... West Point City employees Jim Peatrowsky and Dennis Wordekemper (not pictured) were finishing up some crack caulking around the swimming pool this morning (Wednesday). The pool was filled Monday and Tuesday. From now through Friday, May 24, lifeguards will be vacuuming dirt that settles at the bottom of the pool and making sure the water’s pH balance is correct.

It was a special day for Berg. Not only did she receive her high school diploma, it was also Berg’s birthday. WP-B had 62 graduates.
27 area kids off to Burke A total of 27 area track athletes qualified for the 2013 State Track & Field meet this Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke.
Qualifiers from each area school include: West Point-Beemer (3), Central Catholic (19), Scribner-Snyder (4) and Bancroft-Rosalie (1).

Douglas Bolen - January 02, 2013

Douglas P. Bolen, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at his home in rural Lyons, at the age of 62 years.
A Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Lyons, with military honors by Robert Klase-Rogers VFW Post No. 7998 and Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83. Rev. Paul Ortmeier officiated. A private family burial was held.
Memorials are suggested to the family or St. Francis Memorial Home Health and Hospice.
Survivors include his wife, Janice of Lyons; daughters, Anna (Alan) Berg of Bancroft, Jeanne Bolen of Fremont, Stephanie Greve of Bancroft, Megan (Travis) Johnson of Fremont, Christina Balch of Sand Point, Idaho; 19 grandchildren, Ashley (Jason), Anthony, Jess, Alex, Jordan, Shieler, Andre, Zebediah, Adrian, Zachary, Tobias, Sky, Xandir, Aubrey, Lileigh, Kyra, Grace, Nicholas and Lincoln; great grandson, Evan; siblings, Joe (Marlene) Bolen of Boise, Idaho, Kathe Kohl of Omaha, Peggy (Chris) Blake of Camdenton, Mo., Jeff (Fondra) Bolen, Basil (Mary Clare) Bolen, Jim (Vickie) Bolen all of Omaha; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Evelyn Betts of Central City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce (Jim) Kiser of Andover, Kan., Douglas (Sharon) Betts of Tucson, Ariz.; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pelan Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
