Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for Merlin W. Hasenkamp, age 87, of West Point, were Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point. Pastor Richard Bringewatt officiated. Military honors were conducted at the church. Interment was in the Pilger Cemetery in Pilger.Merlin passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.
Survivors include his spouse, Joan Hasenkamp of West Point; daughter, Diane and husband Dean Knobbe of West Point, and family Laura and husband Paul Polanski of Fargo, N.D. and son Jack, Ellen Knobbe of Denver, Colo., and fiancé Ron Heywood; son, Thomas Hasenkamp of Columbia, Tenn.; sisters, Bernitha Gemelke of Beemer, and Luetta Reuter of Norfolk; brother, Wilfred and wife Palma Hasenkamp of Stanton.
Minnick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
