Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Funeral services for Bernice Heermann, age 74, of Pilger, were held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger. Interment was at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wisner.Bernice passed away on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.
Bernice is survived by her husband Walene of 56 years; son, Wayne Heermann and wife Jayne (Moes) of Pilger; daughters: Sheryl and husband Glen White of Madison, Wanda of Pilger, Denise and husband J. Scott Schmidt of Columbus and Ann Soulliere of Columbus. Grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Paul Morizzo, Janine Heermann, Steven Heermann and Emma Heermann, Dale and wife Charlene (Kastanek) White, Melissa White, Stephanie Schmidt and fiancé Nate Hahne, Brandon Schmidt, Douglas Schmidt and wife Elise, Amanda Soulliere and Abbie Soulliere. Great-grandchildren: Dominic White; Issac, Sterling, Peyton and Adrianna Schmidt. Three brothers: Robert Drott and wife Dorothy of Flippin, AR, Carl W. Drott and wife Mary of Stanton, and David Drott of Washougal, WA. One sister: Jeanette and husband Marvin Brummond of Pilger. Many nieces and nephews.
