Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

John Deppe, 58, died May 27, 2010. A funeral service was in Mitchell, S.D., on June 1, 2010. Military gravesite rites were at Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria, S.D. where his family lives.Survivors include his wife, Nancy; 10 children: Nathan and Lisa Hardison of Sioux Falls, S.D., Aaron Hardison of Sioux Falls, S.D. Jonathan and Amy Deppe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Brandon Deppe of Mitchell, S.D.; Brittany and Dustin Schley of Stratford, Kristian Deppe and fiancé Michael Bourne of Rushville, Cameron Deppe, Sydney Deppe, Morgan Deppe and Adrian Deppe, all of Alexandria; six grandchildren; five sisters, Elvera Scheppers of Platteville, Wis., Margaret and Tom Dermody of Indianapolis, Ind., Mildred and Ed Jankowski of Omaha, Dorothy and Don Lawse of Mason City, Iowa and Mary Deppe of Oak Creek, Colo.; one brother, Walter and Judy Deppe of Albermarle, N.C.; brother-in-law, Ken Mazur of Grable, Wyo.
