Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

Arlene A. Janning, 80, of Carroll, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Fr. Timothy Schott officiated.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Lawrence Parish or Holy Spirit Parish.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
Survivors include her husband, Bernie Janning of Carroll; her children, Gerry Remm and wife Brenda of Arlington, Lou Ann Carter and husband Rick of Lincoln, Donna Hanson and husband Darin of Lincoln, and Darrin Janning and friend Sheila Kelly of Carroll; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her step-children, Sheila Lach of Treasure Island, Fla., Kevin Janning of Omaha, NE, and Kreg Janning and wife Katherine of Richmond, Va.; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Darlene Wortman of West Point, Katie Surman of West Point, John (Mary Ann) Janning of Carroll, Earnest (Diane) Janning of Glidden, Lowell (Julia) Janning of Glidden, Kenneth Janning of Carroll, Lois (Dan) Mein of Leavenworth, Kan., Mary Lou Janning of Carroll, and Art Becker of Charter Oak; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
