The Beemer Elementary School as it now exists will likely get at least a one-year reprieve.
At least, that’s the recommendation of Gary Cooper, interim superintendent of the West Point Public School District.
Cooper told the West Point News Friday that his recommendation to the WPPS Board of Education is that the WPPS district continue with a pre-K through grade 4 school in Beemer for next year, but with some changes in staffing and classes.
The recommendation is for a combined class for the 1st and 2nd graders, and a combined class for the 3rd and 4th graders. The total projected enrollment for those two classes is 7 students in grades 1 and 2 and 5 students in grades 3 and 4.
The kindergarten and pre-school classes will continue to be separate.
