The future of the bridge over the Elkhorn River south of Wisner was a hot topic on Wednesday, April 27, at the Cuming County Supervisors meeting, with options to repair or replace the structure discussed at length.

No action was taken on what’s next for the bridge located on Cuming County Road 6, but the supervisors did express their hopes that a full replacement for the structure is not needed in the next two years.

Chris Howser, the county highway superintendent, informed the supervisors of several options for repairs to the structure, which sits at the south end of what is 13th Street in Wisner.

Jeff Wegner, the county’s engineering consultant, joined the meeting via telephone from Yankton, S.D., and said the costs to repair the bridge or replace it would be similar to those of the Beemer bridge project.
