Firefighters battle fire

Firefighters from West Point, Beemer and Bancroft were on the scene of a house fire Monday morning.  This was the scene not long after the West Point Volunteer Fire Department arrived. The fire’s head start made it tough for the fire departments to contain it.

“There’s nothing worse than fighting a fire like that. You feel helpless, but it’s all you can do.”

That was how West Point Fire Chief Tom Stratman summed up the efforts of three fire departments called to a house fire in rural Cuming County Monday morning.

The house and contents belonging to the Ken Cooper family were destroyed. It is located at 2089 N Road, which is 5 miles north of West Point and about 4 miles east.
