Spring floods and court hearings that led to one murder trial proved costly to Cuming County in budget year 2018-2019.

As a result, the Cuming County Board of Supervisors are eyeing a tax request of $3,343,462 for the new budget year, which is a $226,780 increase over what the county requested in both 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

If the proposed budget is approved, the county’s tax levy will increase to 12.7 cents per $100 of taxable valuation from  11.62 cents assessed in 2018.

Also affecting the levy was a $48.8 million drop in the county’s property valuation.
