Work is underway to build a new bridge over the Elkhorn River south of Beemer. Dixon Construction of Correctionville, Iowa, moved in equipment and began to build a series of culverts and headwalls towards the middle of the river so the bridge can be built from the waterway.
The new bridge will be just east of the current bridge. The goal is to keep the bridge and Beemer blacktop open as much as possible during the bridge work. Several loads of dirt are also being hauled and dumped along the blacktop road south of the bridge where new power poles were installed this summer.
