Juniors at the four high schools in Cuming County learned more about local and state government last week when the 2018 County Government Day was held at the Nielsen Center in West Point.

Close to 140 students took part in the event, hosted by the American Legion Posts in the county.

After a morning filled with student presentations, those attending heard about the effects of the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and heard from last year’s Boys and Girls Staters from West Point-Beemer H.S. and Guardian Angels Central Catholic H.S.

They also heard from District 16 Legislative candidates Chuck Hassebrook and Ben Hansen before casting their votes on that race and the Medicaid expansion ballot initiative. Results of those votes will be shared on the county website on Nov. 6.
