Combine fire

West Point and Beemer Volunteer Fire Departments were called to help prevent the spread of a fire that started in this combine in a soybean field northeast of West Point last Tuesday afternoon. It was the second harvest-related fire call for the West Point firefighters.

The dry summer months that cut yields in some area fields are creating another concern for farmers this fall — fires during harvest.

West Point’s Volunteer Fire Department responded to two combine fires last Tuesday afternoon and the next day were called for mutual aid to a fire in the Wisner fire district.
