Cold weather and a little bit of snow didn’t stop the ground-breaking ceremony for the new pool from happening Tuesday morning in West Point.
City Administrator Tom Goulette said it is exciting to get this project underway, and that he was thankful to all those who helped make this new pool possible.
Among those on hand at the ground-breaking ceremony were representatives of the Nielsen Foundation and the Dinklage Foundation, who were two big donors for the project.
Goulette said the name of the new swimming pool will be the Nielsen Aquatic Center.
Christiansen Construction of Pender is the contractor of the project. They will begin work now, and the completion date is set for October 2023.
And while the ground-breaking ceremony was a special moment, Goulette noted it took a lot of hard work from a lot of different people.
“It was great having everyone there. One person that wasn’t there, but deserves a lot of credit is Kathy Mahannah,” Goulette said. “She did a lot of work on this project.”
