West Point Public Schools’ Board of Education made the hiring of DJ Weddle official Monday night during its January meeting.

Weddle was offered the job — which he accepted — Dec. 18 after the board and other committees interviewed three candidates, but the board hadn’t met since then to make his hiring official. He starts the new job July 1.

Weddle is the current WPPS high school principal which means the district is seeking someone for that position. Superintendent Bill McAllister, who is retiring at the end of this school year, said he hopes to have a replacement for the board to consider in time for its February meeting.
