It became apparent last week that negotiations between the City of West Point and Cuming County Agricultural Society involving property aren’t going smoothly. It’s time to hit the reset button and get this matter resolved.
Discussions between the parties began 11 months ago. The Ag Society owns some of the property the city needs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to shore up the city levee berm (the base of the dike) on the north side of the Cuming County Fairgrounds. That work will happen only if the city can acquire an easement from the Ag Society.
